  Term 2 2026 – Animals and the environment, block printmaking: Years 4–6 (Ages 9–12) Class Schedule Time: 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm (Studio opens at 3:30 pm. Afternoon tea provided. Walking bus available from Neutral Bay Public School.) Wednesdays: 29th of April – 17th of June. Thursdays: 30th of April – 18th of June. In Term 2 at Art Box Workshops, older students will explore the theme Animals and the Environment through a specialised block printmaking course designed for primary school students who are ready for more detailed work. This term focuses on learning how to design, carve, and print an original block print, inspired by Australian wildlife and natural environments. Students will develop design skills and technical ability while creating a series of professional-quality prints. The program is inspired by recent work with Landcare groups, marine educators, and environmental projects, connecting artmaking with a deeper understanding of nature. During this term, students will: Learn how to design an artwork suitable for block printing Transfer their design onto a printing block Safely carve their own printmaking plate Learn correct techniques for inking and hand printing Create a series of three prints Hand-tint one print using watercolour techniques Study animals and the environment as inspiration for their artwork This course is ideal for students who enjoy drawing, detail work, and learning real art techniques. Selected works may be eligible for inclusion in community exhibitions and North Sydney Council events, continuing Art Box Workshops’ tradition of exhibiting student work. Our program will share the methods we have refined over many years—grounded in Earth Mineral Pigments, eco-conscious studio processes, and child-centred learning. Partnering with Like-Minded Schools and Community Groups Through collaborative projects, shared workshops, and community exhibitions, we will continue building networks with schools, environmental organisations, and youth-focused programs that value creativity, nature, and cultural awareness. Developing Sustainable Studio Models Nationwide Art Box Workshops is committed to modelling a studio practice that is safe, low-waste, and environmentally responsible. We aim to share this framework with other educators and creative spaces, demonstrating how traditional pigment knowledge and modern sustainability can coexist in a vibrant learning environment. Offering Children Opportunities to Use Art for Real-World Advocacy We believe art is a voice. Through a growing suite of programs, students will learn how creativity can support environmental advocacy and community action. This will include: Training in creating non-toxic art materials Children and educators will learn to make handmade paints, eco-friendly inks, and natural drawing materials using Earth Mineral Pigments. Environmentally focused printmaking and mixed-media projects Students will create artworks that tell the stories of threatened species, local ecosystems, and conservation issues. Collaborative art workshops for kids and corporate team-building groups These sessions will foster creative problem-solving, environmental awareness, and teamwork through large-scale art installations and pigment-based activities. Fun activism games and creative experiences Including role-playing, mock conservation elections, and storytelling through art to enhance understanding of leadership and advocacy. Guided bush excursions with rewilding and conservation groups Participants will learn directly from nature stewards, gaining insight into habitat restoration, local ecosystems, and practical ways to support conservation efforts. Through these initiatives, we aim to cultivate confident, compassionate young people who feel empowered to speak up for the natural world.   Term 2 2026 – Animals and the Environment, Printmaking and Mixed media: Ages 6–8 years Class schedule: 4:00 pm - 5.30 pm, 3.30 pm studio opens and afternoon tea provided (walking bus service from Neutral Bay Public school) Mondays: 27th April – 22nd June.(Public Holiday King's Birthday 8th of June) Tuesdays: 28th April–16th June. Our Term 2 art classes for younger children at Art Box Workshops Sydney will focus on printmaking and mixed media, with the theme Animals and the Environment. This program is specially designed for children aged approximately 6–8 years, with step-by-step guidance and hands-on activities that build confidence, creativity, and real art skills. Inspired by recent work with Landcare groups, marine educators, and local environmental projects, students will explore Australian wildlife, ocean life, and natural habitats while learning a range of exciting art techniques. These classes are ideal for children who love animals, painting, printing, collage, and creative projects. Selected works may be considered for inclusion in local exhibitions and North Sydney Council community events, continuing our long tradition of showcasing student artwork in public exhibitions.
